Pairing Sphero 1.0 + 2.0 with a DeviceUpdated 9 months ago

Sphero connects to phones differently than our other robots – Sphero connects through Bluetooth Classic. This means that you must select Sphero in your phone’s Bluetooth settings before connecting in-app. The Sphero will appear as Sphero-_ _ _ on your phone’s Bluetooth list.

These 3 blanks will be replaced with 3 letters. These letters will correspond to the colors the Sphero is flashing when it is first woken up. An example would be ROB. The Sphero that is associated with this code would flash Red, Orange, and then Blue.

If you're connected successfully, the Sphero will be glowing with a soft white light.

Things that may affect proper connection to phone/app:

  • Location Services should be turned ON
  • Sphero is already paired with another device (needs to be unpaired)
  • Sphero not fully charged

iOS Pairing

  • Remove Sphero from the Induction Charger.
  • Shake Sphero awake. A double tap will usually work.
    • Your Sphero will flash 3 consecutive colors when it is awake and ready to pair.
  • Access iOS Bluetooth settings.
    • Go to "Settings" then "Bluetooth".
    • Make sure Bluetooth is enabled.
  • Wait for the device to detect Sphero.
    • The name of your Sphero robot will match the flashing colors of your Sphero. For example, Sphero-RYW means that your Sphero will be flashing red, yellow, and white.
  • When your Sphero is detected, select it for pairing.
    • Pairing usually takes less than 30 seconds, but it can take up to 2 minutes.
    • Your Sphero will glow white once it is paired to your iOS device.
    • Occasionally you will need to try pairing more than once.
  • Once your Sphero is paired and glowing white, connect to it with one of the supported Sphero apps.

Android OS Pairing

  • Remove Sphero from the Induction Charger.
  • Shake Sphero awake.  A double tap will usually work.
    • Your Sphero will flash 3 consecutive colors when it is awake and ready to pair.
  • Access Android OS Bluetooth settings. Depending on the Android device, Bluetooth controls may be in different locations in settings.
    • Check "Settings -> Connections -> Bluetooth" or "Settings -> Bluetooth". These are common locations.

    • NOTE: On Android OS, Sphero will show as paired, but will not glow white while paired (like iOS).
    • Occasionally you will need to try pairing more than once.
  • Once your Sphero is paired, connect to it with one of the supported Sphero apps.

If you encounter difficulty paring Sphero, especially if you cannot find it listed in your Bluetooth menu when it is on and flashing its name colors, try restarting your device by completely turning it off and turning it back on again. This will clear the Bluetooth cache and should allow Sphero to connect.
