A small subset of Android users have been experiencing an issue where their device launches the BB-8 application, gets to the main landing screen and then the display goes black and the only thing visible is a small static circle when their screen is touched. 


Our development team is currently in the process of getting a fix out to affected customers, but in the meantime, if you are one of those affected, below you will find a workaround. Please read the disclaimer below before attempting the troubleshooting progression. 


Disclaimer: The following troubleshoot will delete all of your Google Play Services data, which may affect data other applications have saved on your device (game stats, achievements, etc.). If you are not willing to part with this data, our team suggests waiting for the update to fix the issue. 


Troubleshooting steps: 

  1. Uninstall the BB-8 app
  2. Force close out of everything currently running on your device.
  3. Now go to "Settings" => "Application Manager" => "Google Play Store"
  4. Once there, press "Force Stop" then press "Clear Data" (please note you may have to select "Storage" in order for "Clear Data" to appear).
  5. Now go back to "Application Manager" menu and then go into "Google Play Services"
  6. Once press "Force Stop" then press "Clear Cache"
  7. Exit out of settings and go download the BB-8 app again. Launch the app next to a fully charged BB-8.
