Prior to troubleshooting, if you have never connected to R2-D2, first ensure that you are using a compatible device: What devices is R2-D2 compatible with?

If you're using a compatible device, double-check that your device has Bluetooth enabled -- if you're using an Android device, also enable Location Services. R2-D2 utilizes Bluetooth 4.0 to create a connection to your device, so no pairing through the Bluetooth menu is necessary. Simply launch the Star Wars Droids App and hold your device close to your Droid and follow the on-screen instructions. Follow the link for more details on connecting to R2-D2

If your connection issue persists, try the following steps: 

  1. Uninstall the Star Wars Droids App by Sphero 
  2. Restart your device 
  3. Reinstall the Star Wars Droids App
  4. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled (Location Services too for Android users), and you have a strong WiFi connection
  5. Launch app with device close to your fully charged R2-D2
