Fan Site Guidelines
Updated
by Sara Sampson
Sphero, Inc. is the creator of the trademarks Sphero®, Ollie®, SPRK®, SPRK+®, Sphero Edu®, Sphero Mini®, Sphero Power Pack®, and Bolt®. As you might expect, we love nothing more than seeing fans that are excited about our products- Play is a Powerful Teacher™. If you are thinking about creating a fan site, or want to reference anything Sphero-related, let’s work together to make it all as awesome as it can be.
As you build your fan site, please keep in mind it is important that you attribute all images, logos and word marks to Sphero in order to be compliant and considered a friend of Sphero. We will consider each fan site on a case-by-case basis by looking at your site as a whole. If you would like more perspective on fair use in the copyright context, please see Stanford University’s presentation.
Examples of uses that likely are fair use:
- You are posting SPRK+® videos or screenshots of game play.
- Your fan site discusses a new game that has been released for Sphero and you want to use an image as part of the discussion.
Examples of uses that likely are not fair use:
- Use that is misleading to visitors as to your affiliation with Sphero.
- Representing your site as a direct part of Sphero or its brands.
Your Fan Site Logo
Your fan site logo may not use any elements that were derived from official Sphero website or any of our product logos. Your fan site logo should also not use any Sphero trade dress, which is our official font style and color scheme. If you have a Facebook or other social network page, please ensure that this is reflected on that page as well.
Use of Sphero Images and Trademarks
As long as you follow the guidelines here, and when provided the logos/images, fair use allows some use of our company and product names, our logos, and our other trademarks on your fan site. If you would like more perspective on fair use in the copyright context, please see Stanford University’s presentation.
Sphero Provided Content
Although Sphero may provide you with selected images or logos, please note that our content may never be used in association with, or on sites that contain, defamatory, pornographic, or inflammatory content, including, but not limited to, any content that Sphero believes is unlawful or objectionable. We maintain a reference library for images and logos related to Sphero and its products, which may be made available on request. However, we always prefer to see new images that capture your personal experiences with our products because they are usually much more interesting!
Unofficial Status
When you use Sphero images or trademarks, please provide some notation that your site is an unofficial fan site. Some potential notations: “fan site,” “unofficial site,” “unofficial community site,” or another option that has been approved by us. If you have a question about this, please send us a note at support@sphero.com.
Legal Notices
You are required to include all copyright, trademark and other markings. Please include the following notice:“Trademarks are the property of their respective owners. Sphero®, the Sphero logo, and [as applicable)] SPRK®, SPRK+®, Bolt®, Sphero Mini®, Play is a Powerful Teacher™, and Sphero Edu® are trademarks of Sphero, Inc. dba Sphero. All rights reserved.”
Domain Names
Do not use domains that mirror, are similar to, or may cause confusion with any official Sphero domains or trademarks.
